In Europe

As a UK citizen you have the right to live and work in any European Economic Area (EEA) country. Why not start exercising your European rights, right now?

Working in another European country can be a fantastic experience. It looks great on your CV, you get the chance to experience another culture and you have a whole new batch of friends. Its really good to try your luck in Europe before you go further afield, as you are always close to home if things don't work out the way you want them to.

You don't always have to speak another language, there are lots of international companies based in Europe. Obviously having another language does open up your opportunities - you could even be based in a UK company which has an international dimension. In the UK JobCentrePlus has a service called EURES which is an employment service covering jobs in Europe. You can search for jobs online or have a chat to a real life person (EURES advisor) about what you need to do. You can enquire about anything from summer jobs in Spain to careers in organisations in Austria. They can also advise you about what paperwork you need to fill in and how to prepare for your departure.

There is quite a bit to get used to about living in a new country, we are not going to tell you 'you won't feel a thing'. All of us here in the Eurodesk team have lived and worked in another country, so we are speaking from experience. What we do know is that its worth it! We all came to work for Eurodesk because of our international experience - it really does give you the edge. We also have made some great friends to go back and visit.
